HADDAWAY BIO FACTS

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, with a Dutch father and a gorgeous Trinidadian mother, music and artistry were already in his blood.

After inheriting his first musical roots in the Caribbean island, he came to the US, living in Washington DC with his father.

For the first time, he was exposed to the pop culture of the United States, and the music of greats, such as Louis Armstrong, and Frank Sinatra. Music became his passion.

He earned his PhD in political science from Washington DC University. He founded his own band, composing music and performing constantly in all available venues.

The year 1988 marked a big change in his career, when he moved to Cologne/Germany.
Sport, fashion events and dance music became part of his daily life and would inspire his passion for his upcoming success. He played American football, worked on events for the fashion label HUGO BOSS and had his own car racing team.

His fame started with his world-wide mega hit “What is love- Baby dont hurt me no more”, selling over 38 Million copies, it hit the number 1 spot in 42 countries and stayed at number 2 in Germany for 26 weeks . The hit was narrowly beaten by Whitney Houstons “Bodyguard” sound track song “I will always love you”. The song reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The song is currently the 75th best-selling single of all time in Germany.

His follow-up singles “I miss you” and “Rock my heart”, were also top 10 smashes.
“Fly away” and “Catch a Fire” became his next hits and established him successfully in Europe and Asia as a major force in the entertainment industry.

He is known as one of the hardest working artists and his no alcohol, no drugs, no smoking living is a big part of his healthy lifestyle.

Respected by all his pals and colleges he easily performs more than 90 shows per year and brings in most of his friends to enjoy the ride with him.
